» Eva Mendes wanted to be Kate Moss when she grew up. The Hitch actress - who stars in a raunchy advert for Calvin Klein's latest underwear collection - is delighted to be following in the footsteps of the British supermodel, who has also fronted CK lingerie campaigns.

Eva said: "I'm really beside myself because I grew up with Calvin Klein's iconic images with Kate Moss. Me and my girlfriends grew up wanting to be Kate Moss. So now to be the face and body of the new CK range is great".

On friendship: I've had the same girlfriends since I was 12 years old. I've seen them through boyfriends and dramas, everything. When we get together, we're very much like we're back in seventh grade. It's all about the same stuff.

On her role models, Betty Davis and Ava Gardner: Those women spoke their minds and they weren't afraid to say a bad word because they'd come off crass. I feel like nowadays everybody is so careful about what they say. Those women...had a really great combination of femininity and masculinity.

On becoming a better actor: I still go to acting class. It's weird sometimes but I go and I do it. I've worked with amazing people but I never get as nervous on set like I get before I put up a scene in class. I'm like, 'wait, I'm still just a student.'

On tabloids and the paparazzi: I'm grateful for everything I have, and I understand that by being in the public eye, I kind of have to accept that there may be a photographer outside when I leave. People tell me 'well, that's what you asked for.' And it's like, 'no, not really.' I'm willing to accept some of it but I can still say that it's wrong.

On having a good attitude towards life: I just refuse to take myself seriously. And just because I don't take myself seriously, doesn't mean I'm not intelligent. I mean seriously, if we're not laughing, I have no idea what we're doing. At the end of the day you should always do that, you should always look back and just laugh. Even force it if you have to.

Salma Hayek took Mendes' favorite name

» Hollywood starlet Eva Mendes blasted fellow Latino actress Salma Hayek for stealing her favorite baby name, press reported Saturday. The 34-year-old actress said she was shocked when she found out that her pal Hayek, 42, had called her daughter Valentina Paloma, born September 2007.

"Salma took my baby name. Valentina Paloma. I was like, 'Salma, you took my baby name!' And she's all, 'What are your other ones so that I don't take them," Mendes was quoted in Latina Magazine as saying. Mendes, however, insisted that despite the baby row she still has immense respect for the Mexican actress.

"I think if there's anybody in this field that I look up to it's her. She has really done it the right way and I respect her completely. I just saw her speak, and she's the most inspirational speaker. You never want her to leave the stage," the magazine said.

Mendes, who does not have any children of her own, is in a long-term relationship with producer George Augusto.
